Tiny bubbles: The history of greenhouse gases and climate from polar ice cores

This talk will provide an overview of changes in the composition of the atmosphere revealed by air trapped in polar ice cores, and the relationship between those change and past climate variations. It will focus on methods used for obtaining and analyzing polar ice, this history of atmospheric carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, understanding of temporal phasing of greenhouse gas change and climate change in the past, and open questions and new directions in polar ice core research.
