The deadline for applications for Fall admission is January 15, 2012. An open house event for prospective students will be held Friday March 2 - Saturday March 3, 2012. Visiting the department at other times is also encouraged; please contact gradinfo@physics.orst.edu [1].
Admission to Oregon State University's graduate programs is administered centrally. You will find the list of requested materials and the applications procedure at the OSU graduate admissions website [2]. Under special circumstances, international students may mail applications directly to the Department of Physics. Please contact the department to see if you are eligible. Note that international students submit a different application form than domestic students.
Three letters of recommendation are requested. These should be mailed to Physics Department directly. Each letter of reference must be accompanied by a Physics Department reference form (PDF [3] or word document [4]) signed by you and by the person who writes the letter.
When reviewing your application for candidacy in the Ph.D. program, the Department of Physics will be looking at several key areas:
- your interest in research and how it is proven by previous activities
- your preparation for the graduate level Ph.D. physics curriculum
- your potential to be a successful teaching assistant.
When reviewing your application for candidacy in the M.S. programs, including the Professional M.S., the Department of Physics will be looking at several key areas:
- your vision for your future career in science, technology, business, teaching, law, etc.,
- your preparation for the graduate level M. S. physics curriculum
- your potential to be a successful teaching assistant.
