Individual attentionThe Department is proud of its ability to provide individual attention to graduate students and to tailor students' degree programs [2] to their needs and interests. Graduate core and specialized subjects are taught by dedicated, award-winning teachers, and have about 10 students per class. |

State of the art facilitiesResearch is central to the graduate program and students benefit from department facilities such as state-of-the-art laser systems, computational clusters, pulsed laser deposition, single molecule fluorescence microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, microfabrication equipment [3] and central electron microscopy facilities [4]. |

The Oregon lifestyleAlmost all entering students are offered full financial support as Graduate Assistants. Oregon State University is located in Corvallis [5], a medium-sized city located in the Willamette Valley of western Oregon. The climate is mild, with warm, dry summers. To the west, the Pacific coast of Oregon can be reached in about an hour while the Cascade mountains, less than two hours away to the east, are available for hiking, skiing, and other mountain activities. |
