| Nanoparticles and molecular clusters are structures of great interest because of their transitional nature. They are too big to be considered molecules and too small to be considered continuous bodies with well-defined bulk properties. I will present an on-going project that aims at characterizing the physical and optical properties of clusters of refractory materials such as silicates, carbons, metals, oxides, and carbides, with up to 1000 monomers. The results of these ab-initio calculations will be used primarily to study the formation paths of cosmic dust, but are also of great relevance to characterize atmospheric pollutants and understand the negative climatic feedbacks they are associated with |
