Congratulations for Prof. Cecilia Bitz, who won the 2013 University of Miami Rosenstiel Award, one of the School's top honors. Dr. Bitz, an associate professor in the Atmospheric Sciences Department at University of Washington, is the 39th recipient of the Rosenstiel Award. Her work focuses on climate and climate change in the high latitudes, especially involving the cryosphere (areas of the Earth covered in the many forms of snow and ice). Dr. Bitz uses a variety of models for her research, from simple, reduced complexity models to sophisticated Earth-system models. Prof. Bitz received her BS in Engineering Physics from OSU in 1988.

2006 Dec 27

Congratulations to Prof. Rubin Landau, who has received a 2006 Undergraduate Computational Engineering and Sciences Award from the Krell Institute. Landau was recognized for publication of "A First Course in Scientific Computing: Symbolic, Graphic, and Numeric Modeling Using Maple, Java, Mathematica and Fortran90." This work introduces concepts of computational engineering and science using three programming paradigms, with examples from physics, math and other disciplines. The award was one of just three made in the nation.
